Group therapy

Six people whounderstand it

A small facilitated group meeting weekly — often the fastest way to stop feeling like the only one.

What it is

How thisactually works

Group therapy asks more of you at the start and gives back something individual work cannot. Sitting with people who recognise your experience from the inside does something that reassurance from a therapist doesn't. Groups are small, closed once they begin, and led by a registered therapist who keeps them safe. Everyone agrees to confidentiality before the first session. Most people are nervous about the first meeting and glad by the third.

What to expect

From enquiryto ending

  1. 01

    Before you start

An individual meeting with the facilitator. Groups aren't right for everyone at every moment, and this is where we work that out honestly.

  2. 02

    The first session

Everyone agrees the ground rules together, confidentiality first. You are never made to speak before you're ready.

  3. 03

    As the group settles

Groups close after the first two sessions so the same people stay together. That stability is what makes the depth possible.

  4. 04

    Ending

The block ends for everyone at once, with time set aside to close it properly.

If you need someone right now

Therapy is not an emergency service, and a first appointment takes time to arrange. If you cannot wait, call the Kenya Red Cross on 1199 — free counselling, 24 hours a day.
